Leeds United reach agreement for Sam Greenwood loan exit after Sunderland pursuit – Keith Downie
Leeds United have reached an agreement to send Sam Greenwood on loan to Middlesbrough, according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday (30 August), the Sky Sports News journalist reported that Boro have beaten Sunderland in the race to sign the 21-year-old on a season-long deal.
Greenwood has played twice for Leeds this season but both appearances have been as a substitute.
Yet another loan exit
Greenwood is the eighth first-team player to leave Leeds on loan this summer.
While the former Sunderland attacking midfielder is leaving on a temporary basis for different reasons, he’s among a host of loanees Leeds will need to monitor over the course of the current season.
Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca, Max Wober and Jack Harrison have already left on loan deals, mainly due to ridiculous release clauses in their contracts.
Essentially, Leeds have lost what is around £100million worth of signings for nothing for the season instead of being able to cash in on them.

Greenwood, however, is a young and inexperienced player and a loan move to Boro is beneficial due to the fact it’ll give him plenty of game time this season.
The 21-year-old was an ever-present for Leeds last season, playing 22 times in all competitions.
He scored and assisted a goal in the 4-3 win over Bournemouth in November, assisted a goal against Manchester City and was a regular player under Jesse Marsch until he was replaced with Javi Gracia.
Sam Allardyce also saw something in Greenwood by giving him more game time than Gracia but based on Daniel Farke’s decisions so far this season, Greenwood isn’t going to be guaranteed many minutes in the first team.
This is a deal that benefits everyone and we wish him all the best at the Riverside.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has reported that the club have made an official approach to sign a new midfielder.
