Leeds United player has secret trial with new club, Elland Road exit expected
Leeds United goalkeeper Darryl Ombang has featured twice as a trialist for National League North side Farsley Celtic, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The newspaper reported via its online edition on Tuesday (16 July) that the 19-year-old, who has featured in Premier League 2 for Leeds, is now expected to join non-league side Farsley on loan.
Ombang’s identity was kept under wraps as he was only listed as a trialist in the 3-0 win over Eccleshill United, pulling off a penalty save, before making his second appearance during a 1-1 draw with Bridlington Town.
Leeds United youngster set to join non-league side on loan
With Harry Christy and Rory Mahady also in contention to start for the Whites’ U21s next term, it makes total sense for Ombang to embark on another loan journey away from Thorp Arch.
The youngster spent a month out on loan with Ossett United last season, a team two divisions below Farsely in non-league football.
It is extremely important for Ombang to gain valuable experience away from Thorp Arch if he is to be a future goalkeeper at Elland Road, having put pen to paper on a new deal in May [Leeds United].
He is set to remain at the club until the summer of 2026, having arrived in 2021 from Bradford City and has made several appearances for both U18s and U21s so far.
According to LUFC Youth on X, Ombang was involved in first-team training in December 2022 but has yet to make his first-team debut. With Daniel Farke’s openness to utilise youth, however, it could only be a matter of time.

The amount of valuable experience the shot-stopper can gain from just a month away is certainly low, but it will be another part of his journey to the Leeds senior set-up.
Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow would, obviously, give Ombang plenty to learn from, though he will have to wait until he returns to Thorp Arch if the move to Farsely goes through this summer.
