Leeds United: Phil Hay raves about Ethan Ampadu v Hull

Phil Hay raved about Leeds United midfielder Ethan Ampadu in the game against Hull City on Wednesday (20 September).

The Athletic journalist tweeted on Wednesday that there is “a lot to like” about the Welsh international and that he has a “really good knack” of finding a few yards of space whenever he’s on the ball.

It came after the 23-year-old, who signed from Chelsea for £7million over the summer, played a nice move with winger Willy Gnonto as he looked to spring his side into an attack in the 0-0 draw at the MKM Stadium.

“There’s a lot to like about Ampadu,” said Hay. “But he has this really good knack of always seeming to have a few yards of space to work with whenever he gets the ball.

“Nice little move just now, him and Gnonto getting Leeds on the attack but Gnonto overhits his through ball to Rutter.”

Quality

It’s pretty safe to say that Ampadu is already becoming one of the fans’ favourites at Leeds following an excellent start to his Leeds career.

The midfielder arrived at Elland Road with a big reputation from Chelsea and is showing why the Whites were desperate to sign him.

He has been doing a great job playing in front of and shielding the defence after they have looked solid over the past few games.

The Welshman also appears to have already struck up a promising partnership with 17-year-old Archie Gray in the middle of the park.

The fans will be looking forward to seeing that duo continue playing together and will be hoping Ampadu continues to impress as they aim to challenge at the top end of the Championship this season.
