Leeds United open to Georginio Rutter sale to Lyon on one condition – Sky Sports News

Leeds United are open to selling Georginio Rutter to Lyon before Friday’s deadline if they can recoup what they paid for him, report Sky Sports.

Writing on their live transfer blog (29 August, 11:48), Ligue 1 giants Lyon are said to be interested in the France youth international as he leads their shortlist to replace Bradley Barcola who looks set to join Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth around £51.5m.

And Leeds would be open to doing business if they recoup the £35.5m they shelled out to Hoffenheim to sign him January, which is a stumbling block for Lyon as it stands.

“Lyon are exploring the possibility of signing Georginio Rutter, with Leeds open to a deal if they can recoup their investment on him,” they wrote.

“The France youth international joined in a club record £35.5m deal from Hoffenheim in January.

“Lyon have now targeted the forward to replace Bradley Barcola, who has informed the club he wants to depart. Paris Saint-Germain are in pole position to land him, with Chelsea having held talks earlier in the window.

“Rutter leads the shortlist of options Lyon are working on, but they will need to present an agreement that doesn’t see Leeds making a loss on the player.

“That might prove prohibitive for the Ligue 1 side, whose highest outlay is €25m (£21.4m).”

Interesting

Leeds have certainly got an abundance of options in attack right now, and with Daniel Farke still in the market for more it would suggest he is expecting an exit to happen before Friday’s deadline.

Wilfried Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra now look set to stay after being brought back into the first-team squad, while Joel Piroe has just signed in a deal worth up to £16m.

That leaves Daniel James, Crysencio Summerville, Patrick Bamford and Ian Poveda on top of Rutter without any new arrivals, so if a big bid did come in then the club could consider it.

But with that said, having spent so much money on him in January making a loss now would be absolute craziness from the club when he is seemingly quite content to stay put and fire us back into the Premier League.

Lyon have to come up with the right formula and numbers to make it happen, but it’s one to keep an eye on in the coming days with the deadline looming large.

In other Leeds news, Champions League club have made a £25m bid this Whites attacker.
