Leeds United open Ao Tanaka transfer talks after two bids rejected – Sky Sports
Leeds United have opened talks with Fortuna Dusseldorf over a deal for midfielder Ao Tanaka, according to Sky Sports News.
The broadcaster reported in its live online transfer centre (27 August, 6:15 pm) that the Whites are targeting the 25-year-old as they look to add a midfielder to their squad.
Daniel Farke’s side have already seen bids rejected for FC Koln midfielder Dean Ljubicic and Sheffield United’s Gus Hamer in the current transfer window.
Leeds United to sign Fortuna Dusseldorf midfielder Ao Tanaka?
This would be an important addition to Farke’s squad. Therefore, if the Whites can get a deal across the line before the transfer window slams shut on Friday (30 August), Farke and supporters at Elland Road will no doubt be delighted.
It is clear that the Leeds boss feels as though his squad needs a brand-new midfielder. Archie Gray and Glen Kamara have both left the Whites this summer, with Georginio Rutter also departing Elland Road within the last week.
That is three key midfielders from Leeds’ promotion-chasing squad last season. As a result, bringing in a fresh face in that area of the pitch would be wise.

Tanaka is an experienced player having represented Japan at senior level, netting eight times for his country. As a result, that level of experience could prove useful for Leeds as they look to return to the Premier League.
It remains to be seen whether a deal can be agreed. However, with talks already underway, supporters at Elland Road have cause for optimism that a transfer could be completed before Friday.
