Leeds United are one to watch in the race to sign Louie Barry from Aston Villa in January, according to Graeme Bailey.

The 21-year-old is on loan at Stockport County where he has netted 14 goals which has prompted the Villans to recall him early from the League One side [Sunday Mirror].

The Whites have shown an interest in the versatile forward but now look to be one of the front runners after what Bailey told Leeds United News on 17 December.

He said: "I don’t think the player has either. Obviously, there’s a few clubs linked, I’m told Leeds are one of them – not sure if it’s at an advanced stage or anything but it is definitely one Leeds are keeping an eye on."

The former Barcelona youngster appears to be on the way back to Villa Park during the winter window after such a positive start to the campaign in League One.

It doesn't seem that Unai Emery is going to hand the Englishman a first-team chance and a loan to a Championship side looks likely.

If that is the case, a move to Elland Road could benefit all parties as Daniel Farke goes in search of promotion at the second time of asking.

Barry would add versatility to the Leeds front line with his ability to operate on either flank or through the middle.

His finishing so far this season could prove to be a useful weapon for the rest of the campaign in the Championship if he can find his feet in the second tier.

It could prove to be a risk to bring the Villa talent in but if it pays off, the forward could provide the attacking impact to bring Premier League football back to L4.
