Leeds United ‘one step away’ from signing Junior Firpo

Leeds United are “one step away” from signing left-back Junior Firpo from Barcelona, according to Sport.

The Spanish news outlet reports that while Barca are being forced to sell players due to their perilous financial situation, they won’t be selling Jordi Alba after he kept Firpo, 24, out of the side for most of last season.

It is understood that with Firpo set to exit the Nou Camp and head for West Yorkshire, Barcelona are planning to sign a replacement.

One more step

We wonder what that final step is.

Whether it’s final agreements, a medical, the player signing on the dotted line or flying into Yorkshire and shaking hands with Marcelo Bielsa. We’re not sure.

However Leeds’ move for Firpo was widely reported in the Spanish press first and Sport were spot on about that and were also spot on several times about Rodrigo last summer when he joined from Valencia.

The term ‘one step away’ is vague, but it’s still promising and it suggests that Firpo will be a Leeds United player very soon.

It remains to be seen how the summer transfer window will pan out with the left-back situation resolved so soon.

Leeds have already started to add to their Under-23s squad with Amari Miller arriving from Birmingham earlier this week and, as Victor Orta really likes to bring in young talent, we’d expect some more to arrive.

But with the first-team, we could do with a central midfielder or two, Bielsa likes his wingers and another striker wouldn’t go amiss. If Kiko Casilla leaves, a replacement for him would be needed too.

In other Leeds United news, Orta has jetted out of the country to seal this transfer.
