Leeds United now ‘very close’ to signing Isaac Schmidt after Swiss transfer update

Leeds United are “very close” to signing Isaac Schmidt, according to Corner Magazine.

The Swiss news outlet reported via X on Thursday (29 August) that the probability of the 24-year-old signing for the Whites is “very high.”

As previously reported by Sport.Ch (23 June), Schmidt is keen to quit his current club, FC St. Gallen, after an impressive 2023/24 campaign.

It looks set to be a busy couple of days at Elland Road ahead of the transfer window shutting on Friday (30 August).

A brand-new midfielder has been a priority for the Whites and Daniel Farke, and it looks as if the club are set to address that concern.

As reported by Sacha Tavolieri via X (29 August), Ao Tanaka’s move from Fortuna Düsseldorf to Leeds United is a “done deal”.

It appears as though all that is left is an official announcement and Tanaka will officially be a Leeds player. However, in an exciting twist for supporters at Elland Road, that might not be the only deal which gets across the line before Friday.

As well as Tanaka, it seems as though the club might soon be announcing the signing of Schmidt.

The Swiss footballer is incredibly versatile, operating mainly as a left-back but also able to play further forward. That could prove very useful for Farke as he looks to make another promotion push with Leeds.

In other Leeds United news, the club are still targeting another two signings after a medical this morning.
