Leeds United now favourites to sign Joel Piroe from Swansea amid Southampton development

Leeds United are favourites to sign Swansea City striker Joel Piroe, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper reported in their print edition (24 August, pg 40) that the Whites are in pole position to secure the 24-year-old despite interest from Southampton.

The Dutchman has scored 41 Championship goals in 88 games for Swansea and remains a top target for Daniel Farke’s side.

Encouraging

Leeds are in need of attacking recruitment and this update will be music to the ears of fans.

The Daily Mail reported (23 August) that the Whites had submitted a £10million offer to Swansea for Piroe and have been holding talks with his representatives.

They will hope that it will be enough to get the deal over the line but at the very least acts as a statement of their intent to secure his signature and a message to Piroe himself that he is valued by the club.

Leeds need guaranteed goals this season if they want to secure immediate promotion back to the Premier League. Piroe’s Championship goalscoring rate is exceptional as he averages nearly a goal every other game.

Fans may be anxious that the club are leaving a lot of their business to the closing stages of the window. LeedsLive reported (23 August) that the Whites want to double their new signing total and bring in an additional four recruits before the end of the summer.

Leeds United

While ambitious, it is a big ask and the club must have deals lined up for potential signings if they want to pull it off. However, a deal for Piroe seems more likely than other targets.

Leeds have struggled to nail down a starting striker. The club have started three different attackers in their opening three Championship matches, with Willy Gnonto, Joe Gelhardt and Georginio Rutter all leading the line.

Fans will hope Piroe can come in a solidify himself as the first-choice forward for Farke and continue his goalscoring prowess at Elland Road.
