Leeds United next transfer not imminent, goalkeeper and left-back priority signings
Leeds United want to sign a goalkeeper and a left-back next but there are no transfers imminently expected, according to Beren Cross.
Writing on his personal Twitter account (19 July), the LeedsLive journalist reports that the club are keen to make more additions to the squad after the arrival of Ethan Ampadu was confirmed.
But while positions have been earmarked as priorities, no deals are close to being done at this stage of the window.
“It’s recruitment which has been in the planning for several weeks that can now be unleashed with the release of Marathe et al’s vision. It doesn’t stop with Ampadu, of course,” they wrote.
“LeedsLive understands, as of Wednesday morning, the Whites were not expecting their next arrival imminently.
“Goalkeeper has emerged as the most likely position to be added next. Karl Darlow remains a target Leeds are very keen on, with high hopes they can reach an agreement with him and Newcastle United.
“Left-back is another target area which seems to be bubbling to the surface for the Whites.”
Get to it
A move for Karl Darlow now looks unlikely as of Thursday with the player close to a move to Bournemouth, which means the hunt is arguably even further back than it was when this article was written.
Meslier’s future at the club is up in the air with little interest reported so far in this window, but he clearly wants to move on after losing his place as the number one at the end of the last campaign.

As for left-back, it’s a very interesting situation. Junior Firpo isn’t wanted as much as he doesn’t want to be here, while Leo Hjelde is wanted by Andrea Radrizzani at Sampdoria.
But we need to strengthen before we can allow players to leave or we risk leaving ourselves short. With no incoming expected any time soon, there is clearly no plan for many more exits right now either.
The new season is only a few weeks away at this point and Leeds need more to be fully prepared but thee 49ers are ready to be aggressive where necessary so it’s certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
