Leeds United need Victor Orta to 'pull a rabbit out of the hat' or miss Brenden Aaronson
Leeds United risk going without any signings during the transfer window as the move for Brenden Aaronson is “stuck”, says the Mirror’s David Anderson.
The journalist reports that Red Bull Salzburg are unmoved, and it will take a change of heart from the Austrians or some Victor Orta magic to change things.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, Anderson said: “Leeds’ move for Brenden Aaronson is still stuck with Red Bull Salzburg refusing to budge.
“It increasingly looks like Leeds will not sign anyone unless Salzburg suddenly shift or Victor Orta can pull a rabbit out of the hat like he did with Raphinha.”
The Whites are clearly set on landing the American midfielder after The Athletic reported that they went back with an improved £20million offer.
But the player himself has now gone away on international duty with the USMNT and was not interested in addressing the subject while he was focusing on World Cup qualifiers.
His current club are not thought to be interested in losing a key player with a huge Champions League tie against Bayern Munich on the horizon.
Brazilian Raphinha arrived in a deadline day deal for £17million from Rennes in 2020 as Director of Football Orta capped off a busy transfer window at the last opportunity.
And it looks like it will go down to the wire with United trying to convince Salzburg to let their man go.
Beren Cross had previously reported that the former Philadelphia Union player was Leeds’ only target, so there presumably will be fewer distractions during this window than there were during 2020.
But if it appears to be a fruitless endeavour, other last-minute targets may have to be considered.
In other Leeds United news, this first team star is reportedly likely to leave in the summer after a contract development.
