Leeds United multi-million Joe Gelhardt fee revealed as transfer on cards

Hull City could potentially have a chance to sign Joe Gelhardt from Leeds United permanently next summer.

The 23-year-old joined the Tigers on loan in the previous transfer window after impressing on a temporary move in the second half of last season.

Gelhardt has now expressed his delight at Hull, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Englishman remain at the MKM Stadium beyond the current campaign.

Daniel Farke is struggling for goals at Elland Road, but it doesn’t look like the West Yorkshire outfit have any intention of returning to LS11 anytime soon.

Leeds United wanted £8million for Joe Gelhardt in the summer

Leeds may be in a much better bargaining position due to Gelhardt’s form after demanding around £8million for him in the summer, Barry Cooper says.

The Hull Live reporter believes that while the Whites’ price tag on the centre-forward may have been a bit too much in the previous transfer window, the Elland Road hierarchy may now look to command a significant sum.

With the striker scoring nine goals in 18 Championship appearances this season, the future seems bright for him wherever he ends up.

Speaking to Leeds Live, Cooper said: “He’s only got a year or so left on his Elland Road deal, so the fee won’t be huge, though still not to be sniffed at. City will have a chance purely based on Gelhardt’s strength of feeling for the club.”

The journalist added: “Initially, the Whites wanted about £8m early in the summer, which was pie in the sky at that stage. If he keeps up his form, then they’ll have much stronger bargaining power in the market and look to command a big fee.”

Gelahardt’s goalscoring run at Hull will be good news at Elland Road, and it will be interesting to see whether he’ll be sold soon.

Joe Gelhardt January transfer call baffles at Elland Road

Farke would be wise to recall Gelhardt to Elland Road in January, considering they’re one of the worst goalscorers in the Premier League in the current campaign.

However, it doesn’t look like Leeds have any intention of bringing the striker back from Hull, with Cooper saying: “My understanding is that Leeds have the option to recall him in January, but only have a short window early on to do that, and at this stage, have no plans to call him back.”

It’s crazy to think the Whites are not considering the centre-forward’s return after Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lukas Nmecha and Joel Piroe’s struggles.

Only time will tell how the situation in LS11 will unfold.
