Leeds United move for Jonathan Rowe as Wolves ruled out of race for Norwich City ace

Leeds United will not face competition from Wolves as they look to sign Norwich City ace Jonathan Rowe, Alex Crook reports.

According to the talkSPORT journalist via X on 5 August it is going to take a “very decent” bid from Elland Road to convince the Canaries to part with the 21-year-old as they are “keen” to keep him.

But their interest is “real” as they look to react to the departure of Crysencio Summerville to West Ham over the weekend.

John Percy reported for The Telegraph on 5 August that preliminary talks between the clubs had already been held and an opening offer of £7million was on the cards, despite a gap in valuations over the attacker.

Daniel Farke wants to raid former side for Leeds United signing

The Whites have taken in a decent amount of transfer proceeds this summer after seeing star men Summerville and Archie Gray leave.

Another key man in Glen Kamara and a number of fringe players have also gone while the Red Bull sponsorship also brought in significant cash.

Farke reportedly believes he needs three signings from this point to be in the promotion picture again [The Athletic, 5 August], with a wide man, a midfielder and a full-back on the list.

Even allowing for the financial complications that he entered the summer with there should be enough cash to afford good quality reinforcements at those three positions.

Rowe broke out with 12 goals in his first campaign as a first-team regular at Carrow Road last term so there is probably scope for him to improve further still.

But as his contract inside the final 12 months, although there is believed to be a club option to extend it one year [Football Insider, 5 August], the Whites may be wary of being forced to pay too much, especially when they’ve seen Summerville leave for significantly less [Florian Plettenberg, 3 August] than the £40m asking price that had been reported [talkSPORT, 30 July].

In other Leeds United news, another Whites-linked ace has been backed to snub Leicester and head to Elland Road.
