Leeds United miss out on Everton striker Tom Cannon with Preston loan set for this week
Leeds United are set to miss out on the signing of Everton striker Tom Cannon as he looks set to join Preston on loan this week, report ChronicleLive.
Writing on their official website (16 August), the news outlet report the 20-year-old striker is set to re-join Preston on loan for the season after spending the second half of last season at Deepdale.
Leeds and Sunderland have also been linked with a move for Cannon, with some reporting they could pay £8m to sign him permanently, but both look set to miss out on his signature to solve their striker issues.

“Sunderland look set to miss out on a deal for Everton’s in-demand striker Tom Cannon, with the 20-year-old set to join Preston North End on loan this week,” they wrote.
“The Black Cats were among a host of clubs, including Championship rivals Leeds United, to be credited with interest in the youngster, as Tony Mowbray looks to address his side’s goalscoring issues.”
Blow
With the futures of Crysencio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra firmly up in the air entering the final two weeks of the transfer window, a new striker is a priority at Elland Road.
Patrick Bamford’s injury issues remain a huge worry for the season too, while Georginio Rutter and Mateo Joseph are largely unproven and would be a gamble.

While Cannon isn’t a proven talent either, he showed last season at Deepdale that he can find the net with some consistency at this level and he would be a solid option for the upcoming season.
We know that a bid has gone in for an as yet unnamed striker, but with no progress being made on that since Daniel Farke has got big headaches about how to shape his front line currently.
He won’t have Cannon to call upon this season either now, as things look bleak with just two weeks remaining of the window.
