Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph could be on his way out this summer, amid links to Real Betis.

The 21-year-old featured regularly for the first team in the 2024/25 campaign, making 41 appearances in all competitions.

His output in front of goal was far from impressive, however, as he scored on three occasions and provided another three assists.

Elland Road outfit in talks with Betis over Joseph transfer

According to Diario de Sevilla (11 June), Betis are prioritising a move for a new striker in the summer transfer window.

However, Betis are not keen on offering as much and are willing to do a deal for a £6.8million fee.

They are willing to let the West Yorkshire outfit retain a 20 per cent sell-on clause to sweeten the deal.

Joseph's stock is understood to be rising after a strong start to the Under-21 European Championship.

Leeds United hold the stronger hand in negotiations for Joseph

Leeds United must hold firm on their £15.2million valuation for Joseph and not succumb to Real Betis’ £6.8million valuation, as his potential and rising stock justify the higher price.

The Spanish side could even make a bid around that valuation and the Elland Road club must reject it if they do.

At 21, Joseph made 41 appearances in the 2024/25 season, scoring three goals and providing three assists, but his underwhelming output reflects adaptation to senior football rather than limited ability.

His strong performances at the Under-21 European Championship have boosted his profile, potentially attracting interest from other clubs.

Lowering the valuation risks undervaluing a Spain Under-21 international with significant upside, especially as Leeds aim for Premier League promotion.

The proposed 20 per cent sell-on clause from Betis is insufficient compensation for a player of Joseph’s potential.

If Betis cannot meet the £15.2million demand, clubs like Brentford or Crystal Palace, seeking young strikers, could match Leeds’ valuation, ensuring the club maximise their return on a promising talent.
