Leeds United may be forced into Crysencio Summerville sale amid Liverpool transfer news

Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe has confirmed there will need to be “trade-offs” at Elland Road this summer with Crysencio Summerville the club’s prized asset, according to the Daily Mirror.

In page 54 of their print edition [30 May], reporter David Anderson stated that Marathe is resigned to losing key players this summer as the club look to bring in reinforcements and deal with returning loan players, all whilst keeping within PSR boundaries.

Summerville is likely to command the prettiest penny for Daniel Farke’s side, with Liverpool and Chelsea among those with a public interest in the outbound Dutchman as Leeds are resigned to another year in the Championship.

Marathe was quoted: “We have the funds we need … but there will need to be some trade-offs.

“I can’t talk about specific players right now, it’s too early.

“There are certain things we need to do and we’ll make sure we are fully compliant with [PSR], as we always have been.”

Leeds United in the red and must be market-savvy this summer

With a declared loss of £33.7m for the 2022-23 financial year – despite recouping £73 from player sales – Leeds United must be very pragmatic in their approach when it comes to balancing the numbers up against building a promotion-worthy squad.

Leeds will be ruthless with returning loanees who are not part of Farke’s plans, including taking losses just to recoup at least a sizeable fee for some squad members – it was reported that Brendan Aaronson could be sold for around £13m less than his purchase amount.

And the hardest part will be bidding farewell to Summerville – and almost certainly one or two others – following Sunday’s Wembley heartbreak by Southampton.

The young Dutch forward is admired across Europe and will have his pick this summer, with Champions League football potentially on the table and in turn, surely a bow for the full Netherlands side.

It will be a turbulent off-season transfer-wise at Elland Road, but there is plenty of faith in 49ers Enterprises to keep the books healthy and without any fear of PSR breaches as they have seen with rival clubs’ struggles.
