Leeds United: ‘Massive’ Archie Gray transfer news emerges from Elland Road on Sunday

Leeds United starlet Archie Gray is at the centre of some huge transfer news as reported by Sun journalist Alan Nixon, with Borussia Dortmund keeping tabs on the 18-year-old.

Nixon has said via his Patreon account on Sunday (7 April) that the German giants are well placed to secure the teenager’s services if Leeds fail to be promoted from the Championship, leaving Gray with a “massive” decision to make on his future.

Archie, the newest member of the Gray family’s footballing dynasty at Elland Road, has been an ever-present in the Whites’ promotion push this season, starting almost every game at either right-back or in central midfield for a Leeds side who currently sit third in the table.

Discussing the merits of a move abroad to Germany, Nixon mentioned that “Dortmund want midfield prospect Gray to follow the Jude Bellingham path to the top, via the Bundesliga.”

Gray looks destined for greatness – it’s up to him how he gets there

It’s no surprise that Dortmund are looking into Gray’s transfer availability given their impeccable record of developing world-class players from young talent, and given the teenager has ‘already been picked out by Gareth Southgate as a future England international’, it’s even less surprise that Europe’s top clubs are circling.

The Black-Yellows have had further success in recent years with imports from England too – see Bellingham, Jadon Sancho, and more recently Jamie Bynoe-Gittens – and given Gray’s clear talent it’s easy to see why they could be a preferred destination should the 18-year-old leave Leeds this summer.

Bellingham’s development at Dortmund has helped him become a regular for both Real Madrid and England. Could Gray be on track for a similar rise?

That, however, is highly dependent on the Whites’ push for promotion, with Nixon noting that Gray’s preference is ‘to go to the Premier League with Leeds’, having been at the club all his life.

A short-cut to the Champions League, however, may be too good an offer for the youngster to turn down.

In other Leeds United news, former striker Jermaine Beckford was baffled by Joel Piroe’s late missed chance as the Peacocks lost 2-1 at Coventry.
