Leeds United make Walker-Peters approach amid Fulham transfer twist

Leeds United must spend wisely if they are to avoid an instant return to the Championship next season.

The Yorkshire outfit have been given a £100million boost ahead of the transfer window, but that will only go so far.

Therefore, the free agent and loan markets present appealing avenues as Daniel Farke strives to build a strong squad.

Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters has been identified as a target, and Leeds may have a free run on him after news involving Fulham.

Leeds receive Walker-Peters boost

Walker-Peters will become a free agent when his contract at Southampton expires at the end of June.

The 28-year-old is likely to be in demand, given he has just under 150 Premier League appearances to his name.

It has been reported by Graeme Bailey via Leeds United News (14 May) that Leeds are keen to bring Walker-Peters to Elland Road to add competition to Jayden Bogle.

Leeds are said to be one of numerous clubs to have already made an approach.

Bogle has impressed in his first season with the Yorkshire club, and adding Walker-Peters will only up his game.

However, Leeds face competition for the twice England-capped right back, with Fulham one of several clubs interested.

However, in a fresh twist, uncertainty around Marco Silva’s position as manager could jeopardise any Fulham deal.

Silva is said to be interested in a switch to Saudi Arabia and is also a contender for the Tottenham Hotspur job, should Ange Postecoglou get the sack.

Walker-Peters would be a shrewd signing for Leeds

Leeds should do all they can to secure Walker-Peters, given his experience and the fact that he would arrive on a free.

Southampton have struggled this season, but the right-back is one of the few players to keep his reputation intact.

Having risen through Tottenham’s ranks, the 28-year-old made a name for himself with the Saints and has spent just under five years with the South Coast club.

Farke needs players with Premier League experience to guide his side next season, and Walker-Peters has this in spades.

Of course, Leeds must strengthen in other areas and should push to sign Newcastle United’s Nick Pope to replace Illan Meslier.

Walker-Peters would be just the start for the Yorkshire club in what is set to be a pivotal transfer window.
