Leeds United make Troy Parrott a top target as transfer threat emerges
Troy Parrott is believed to be a transfer priority for Leeds United head of the January transfer window.
Leeds’ latest interest in Parrott emerged recently after his stunning international break with Ireland where he scored all five of their goals in a pair of crucial World Cup qualifying wins over Portugal and Hungary.
After numerous loan spells while at Tottenham the striker moved to AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie ahead of last season, and Leeds had been looking at bringing Parrott back to England in the summer after a 20-goal debut campaign in the Netherlands.
He’s scored 14 more in 15 appearances this term and now his international fireworks are generating major transfer scrutiny ahead of the New Year.
Leeds face Wolves threat for Troy Parrott move
Daniel Farke is facing sack pressure at Leeds, with his attack misfiring in recent weeks, and Parrott appears to be a key option to address that.
According to talkSPORT the Whites have the 23-year-old “high on their list of striker targets” but Leeds face significant competition from Wolves among others.
The struggling Molineux side reportedly balked at the quoted fee in the summer of over £20 million, but with Rob Edwards taking over for the sacked Vitor Pereira the could be a new route to getting the deal done, as the manager has the same agent as Parrott.
Leeds lost 2-1 to Aston Villa on Sunday out of the international break, off the back of defeats at Brighton and Nottingham Forest heading into the lay-off, with summer signing Lukas Nmecha scoring only just second and third goals for the club in the past two outings.
Striker misfirings could get Farke sacked
Nmecha’s goal against Villa was a fortunate one, and when fellow new recruit Dominic Calvert-Lewin has just one this season, while Joel Piroe has none, there is an obvious issue in this side.
Various complaints about Farke‘s methods in the Championship were overcome simply by dint of the quality of the squad leading to goals more often than not, with even the divisive use of Piroe leading to 32 league goals in his two campaigns for the Whites.
| Player | Appearances | Goals |
| Troy Parrott | 15 | 14 |
| Lukas Nmecha | 13 | 3 |
| Dominic Calvert-Lewin | 11 | 1 |
| Joel Piroe | 7 | 0 |
Restocking at the position for the Premier League has not paid off so far, and with Parrott’s stock at an all-time high it could be an expensive risk to take.
Equally, whether Farke makes it that far is one key factor, but if he does so and the 49ers are willing to back him the Republic of Ireland hero’s record in front of goal is impressive in recent years so he could just be worth that risk.
