Leeds United make progress for Deadline Day loan signing of Burnley defender Connor Roberts

Leeds United have made progress on Thursday morning to complete the loan signing of Burnley defender Connor Roberts, according to Dean Jones.

Speaking to GiveMeSport (1 February), the journalist reports that a deal was hanging in the balance on Wednesday but there has since been progress on deadline day to get a deal over the line.

And Jones says if a deal can’t be agreed in time then there is a danger that Leeds will sign nobody before the deadline passes, but says “there is hope” he will join.

“A deal for Connor Roberts had been in the balance on Wednesday, but sources told me this morning that things had started to tip in Leeds’ favour of sealing a deal to sign him from Burnley,” he said.

“There are not many other irons left in the fire at the moment, so it’s pretty important this goes well in the next hours, otherwise I do think there is a danger they won’t sign anyone. But a loan is being discussed and there is hope.”

Excellent

Leeds have needed a full-back for a long time in this transfer window with Luke Ayling and Djed Spence allowed to leave, but Daniel Farke wanted a specific profile.

Bringing someone in for the sake of it isn’t something the manager wants to do, and while some deals have fallen through this window the club haven’t panicked.

Roberts is someone who has been linked for most of the window but it’s clear that Leeds had other targets as priorities, and they knew that there was a deal for Roberts to be done if they needed to late on.

It’s great from the club to back the manager in the transfer window, and to allow him to bring someone in, but now Roberts needs to perform if he does arrive.

With the transfer window closing at 11pm, time is running out and hopefully Leeds won’t find themselves regretting not pulling the trigger on this deal a bit earlier to ensure it gets over the line.
