Leeds United make offer to sign Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys

Leeds United have made an offer to sign Chelsea centre-back Bashir Humphreys, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on 11 August (page 86) that Burnley are also keen on the 21-year-old and have made an offer of their own.

It remains unclear whether Leeds are trying to sign Exeter-born Humphreys on loan or on a permanent deal but Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday (10 August) that Chelsea would rather sell the England Under-21s ace.

Leeds United to ramp up late summer transfer bids

After drawing 3-3 with newly-promoted Portsmouth at Elland Road on Saturday, it’s become more obvious that Daniel Farke needs to add to his squad before the transfer window closes on 30 August.

There should be plenty of money in the bank after big-money sales of Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville with the result suggesting this weekend that Farke needs to invest in shoring up his defence a bit more.

Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk are, on paper, one of the best centre-back pairings in the division and with Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev ahead of them, you would have thought things would have been more defensively sound.

However, the loss of Glen Kamara also could have hit in this area, with him joining Rennes earlier in the summer.

Humphreys wouldn’t be a starter if he was to join Leeds, he’d only be a back-up option.

We really don’t see Chelsea being open to loaning out the young defender for him to sit on Farke’s bench for the majority of the season so they might only sell the player to Leeds on a full-time basis.

The Whites should have the money because we doubt he’ll be too expensive.
