Leeds United make late January approach to sign Nantes forward Moses Simon

Leeds United have made a last-ditch January approach to sign Nigeria forward Moses Simon from Nantes, according to Ignazio Genuardi.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Saturday afternoon [29 January], the Football365 journalist reports, via Get French Football News, that Leeds have sounded out a late swoop for the 26-year-old.

However, it is understood that Nantes will not consider selling Simon this month unless an “XXL” offer is made for him worth around £16.6million.

No chance

Leeds do not need another wide player.

Simon has made 19 appearances in all competitions for Nantes this season, playing almost all of them on the left-wing.

And Leeds really do not need more wingers when they have Jack Harrison and Daniel James in their squad – two players who aren’t known at all for being injured or unavailable.

Simon has scored twice and supplied six assists in his 18 Ligue 1 appearances for Nantes this season.

He’s played across Europe in Belgium, France, Spain and Slovakia – but we just feel as though he wouldn’t be a good fit for Leeds.

Firstly, we don’t need another wide-forward. We need midfielders and a striker.

Secondly, £16.6million is a lot of money for Leeds to spend on someone who we’re not really convinced will be able to shine in the Premier League with the Whites.

Leeds have done nothing worth noting this month when their squad has been decimated by injuries.

Our midfield was already weak but right now, Kalvin Phillips, Adam Forshaw and Jamie Shackleton are all injured.

Marcelo Bielsa has missed an opportunity this month by not adding to the midfield and if he tries to sign another winger instead, there’ll be a lot of questions asked.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has shared what Bielsa’s stance is on last-minute Leeds signings this month.
