Leeds United make exit decision on Willy Gnonto after Everton bid

Leeds United have made the decision to not sell Wilfried Gnonto before the 30 August deadline, according to The Yorkshire Post.

The news outlet shared the update on their website [7 July] after rumours started to resurface of the Italy international being “keen” on a move to Everton [TEAMtalk, 6 August].

The Yorkshire Post outlines that the attacker is poised to become a “major figure” within Daniel Farke’s squad and that the Whites have “no current inclination” to sell the 20-year-old this season.

Leeds are said to have turned down a £23million bid from Everton for Gnonto earlier this summer [Nancy Froston, 6 August].

Leeds United keeping Wilfried Gnonto makes sense

Gnonto is one of the many names from within Leeds’ squad that have been linked with an Elland Road exit before 30 August.

However, since the sale of Crysencio Summerville, the rumours have slowly started to die down around the attacker’s future.

The 2024/25 season could be the one where Gnonto truly showcases his talent and steps up to the plate and replaces Summerville.

The Whites have made a bid for Norwich ace Jonathan Rowe [Yorkshire Evening Post, 5 August] over the last few days but there’s no doubt that should Gnonto stay, the left-wing spot will be his to lose.

Whilst the West Yorkshire outfit were in the Premier League, Gary Neville lauded the then 19-year-old as “really good” following his performance against Aston Villa.

Only time will tell what the future holds for Gnonto but one thing is for sure, Leeds’ chances of promotion this season will be far better with the attacker among their ranks rather than without him.

In other Leeds news, the Whites may look to repeat their Crysnecio Summerville trick with a new transfer this summer.
