Leeds United make decision on Everton payment plan for Willy Gnonto amid £40m reveal

Willy Gnonto’s move to Everton collapsed because Leeds United wouldn’t agree to the payment plan being offered by the Merseyside club, according to The Times.

The newspaper reported via their website on Thursday (24 August) that Sean Dyche might not be able to sign new players before the transfer window closes after a deal for MSP Sports Capital to buy into Everton failed.

The Times claims that “Everton’s cash-flow problems have led to them seeking loan signings and creative repayment structures to fund transfers” and it seems they tried to use the latter to secure £40million-rated Gnonto, 19, from Leeds.

However, it is understood that the Whites wouldn’t accept the schedule that was being proposed by the cash-strapped Toffees.

Will Gnonto play again for Leeds?

It seems as though this whole ugly saga is coming to an end now.

Gnonto submitted a transfer request at Elland Road before withdrawing that and choosing to stay in West Yorkshire instead.

It’s a bit rich though. He spends all summer trying to force a move to a team who are mired in financial issues and are rubbish on the pitch and then changes his mind after they lost their opening two Premier League games.

He’s got a lot to do to win back the trust of Leeds fans, who have understandably been furious with the youngster’s behaviour when they stood behind him so vehemently last season.

Gnonto was under-used by pretty much every manager Leeds had last term despite him being a full Italy international.

He’s a great talent but this saga has shown him to be immature, unprofessional and maybe too easy to be guided by an agent.

Gnonto could have a big future at Leeds but we are glad that he hasn’t joined Everton because if he went there, his career would have become a laughing stock.
