Leeds United make approach to sign star who Cesc Fabregas called ‘immense’

Leeds United are looking to add some more creativity to their midfield in January.

Daniel Farke’s future looks safe for now at Leeds, and as a result, it will make their January recruitment plans a hell of a lot easier.

Several players have already been linked with a move to Elland Road, including Roony Bardghji, as the Whites look to solidify their status as a Premier League club and break the mould set by recently promoted teams.

However, it seems as though an attacking midfielder is going to be a priority position for Leeds, and the latest link has resurfaced from the summer.

Martin Baturina linked with Elland Road switch

Martin Baturina was linked with a move to Leeds in the summer window, but any deal failed to materialise, and the two parties went their own ways.

However, that interest seems to have resurfaced, with Fabrizio Romano reporting via his YouTube channel that the Whites are still interested.

He said: “Baturina is a player Como still wants to focus on; they’re not thinking about a January exit. I’ll tell you the behind-the-scenes story. In the last few days, Leeds have been in touch, and the teams are starting to move.

Leeds have proposed opening talks with Como and the player’s agents about a possible transfer, even a permanent one. Leeds would have practically repaid Baturina to Como.”

Baturina’s stats in his last season for Zagreb

The 22-year-old has started just one Serie A game for Como this season, with a total of 165 minutes played.

However, the interest from Leeds will likely be from his standout season in Croatia, where he registered six goals and 13 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.

Baturina created a remarkable 92 chances for Dinamo Zagreb last season, but his defensive stats are what may have tickled the fancy of Leeds.

Via FotMob, Baturina won 164 duels, with a 49.4 per cent win rate, showcasing his willingness to put in the hard yards and work off the ball.

While he may not have featured much this season, Cesc Fabregas was full of praise for the maestro upon signing for Como.

What did Cesc Fabregas say about Martin Baturina?

Given his age and reputation built in Croatia, Baturina was hailed as a big signing for Como in the summer transfer window.

When the deal was announced, Fabregas had only good things to say about the midfielder.

“Martin is a player of immense quality,” he said.

“He’s intelligent on the ball, strong in duels, and has the personality to make things happen in key moments. He fits exactly the kind of football we’re building here.”
