Leeds United make £7m bid for Fenerbahce star Bright Osayi-Samuel

Leeds United have tabled a £7m offer to sign Nigeria international Bright Osayi-Samuel from Fenerbahce, according to Gazetedamga.

Writing on their website (13 March), the Turkish news outlet report that the Whites made an offer for the winger ahead of the summer transfer window.

But Fenerbahce asked for negotiations to be postponed until the summer as they don’t want to make a decision before the season is complete.

“Leeds United stepped in for Bright Osayi-Samuel, who joined Fenerbahçe after playing for Blackpool and QPR,” they wrote.

“The British team made an offer of £7million for the 26-year-old player. The management, on the other hand, asked for the negotiations to be postponed until the summer, both for their own future and because they did not want to make a decision before the season was completed.”

Leeds United make early transfer moves

At the start of this campaign Leeds struggled for regular form because the transfers for the squad hadn’t been completed yet.

While the form of the team has since been fantastic, it is the reason why the club are behind Leicester City in the chase for promotion and a slow start can’t happen again next season either in the Championship or the Premier League.

So it makes sense that the club are looking to avoid that issue for the new season by making moves early for long-term targets, but they need the selling clubs to be open to it also.

If Fenerbahce don’t want to agree a deal now there is very little that Leeds can do about it, but by making offers it at least opens up the dialogue and could lead to things moving quicker at the end of the season.

The main focus should certainly be on the performance on the pitch over the coming months, but this is a good sign that the board are prepared for a busy summer window.

In other Leeds news, Phil Hay shares that the club are unlikely to offer this first-team star a new deal and could sell him in the summer.
