Leeds United are said to be assessing their goalkeeper department this summer, with Lucas Perri a possible casualty.

The Whites brought Perri to Elland Road for just over £15million last summer in a deal that came with great promise.

However, fast forward 12 months and veteran shot-stopper Karl Darlow is Daniel Farke's number one choice between the sticks.

Perri has been nothing short of a flop, but the problem the 49ers have is what to do with him next.

Darlow remains on Manchester United's transfer list, as Paraag Marathe and Co. need to offer the Welshman improved terms if he is to stay in LS11.

However, Perri could be the biggest loser out of the pair this summer, especially considering links to Parma talent, Zion Suzuki.

Lucas Perri's Leeds nightmare comes in form of Zion Suzuki

Perri was supposed to be the number one goalkeeper choice for Leeds last season, but after failing to impress, he became the designated cup goalkeeper.

There's no reason to say the 28-year-old can't fight for his place still, but it all depends on the patience that Farke and the 49ers have with him, amid ambitions to improve in the Premier League.

The biggest sign that Perri is done for comes with the latest news that sees Leeds linked with Japan international Suzuki.

The Parma ace has been hailed already at this year's World Cup, after a stunning performance in Japan's 2-2 draw against the Netherlands.

As relayed by Brazilian outlet BOL, Zion was labelled a "God" for pulling off several reflex saves against Ronald Koeman's side, helping Japan to an impressive point in their World Cup opener.

The Whites are said to be gathering information on the 23-year-old, as they face competition from fellow Premier League competitors, Aston Villa.

Where the dots connect for Perri's future

If Suzuki were to sign, he would be seen as the immediate first-choice man between the sticks.

This would then push Darlow onto the bench, and ultimately, Perri out of the squad.

Leeds would not keep the Brazilian around for the sake of it and would most likely look to cut their losses by selling him this summer.

That being said, Suzuki would be the replacement for Perri, in that Leeds would be upgrading on a man who they thought would be their first-choice keeper last season.
