Leeds United-linked Orkun Kokcu receives ‘generous’ offer as Feyenoord price tag shared

Turkey international Orkun Kokcu, recently linked with a move to Leeds United, will cost £17million to prise from Feyenoord.

That’s according to Feyenoord Transfermarkt on Twitter, issuing an update on Tuesday (7 December) after Freek Jansen, a Voetbal International reporter, reported last month (28 November) that Leeds are watching the 20-year-old closely [Studio Voetbal].

They said: “Orkun Kökçü is undergoing a stormy development. The Turkish midfielder recently received a generous proposal from the wealthy Hertha BSC. He has kindly thanked him for this: His heart is in Feyenoord, which requires £17million for his playmaker.”

European experience

Kokcu has been a regular member of the Feyenoord first team since the 2019/20 campaign, having made his debut at the age of 17 in September 2018.

His influence on the side has steadily grown and he has already supplied five assists, and scored one goal, in 15 Eredivisie appearances this season.

He has also played 11 times in the Europa Conference League after making 15 appearances in the Europa League over the previous two seasons.

The “incredible” [Warren Houghton] Dutch-born attacker also scored his first international goal last month (16 November) in Turkey’s 2-1 win over Montenegro in World Cup qualifying.

Leeds could do with signing another attacker but that’s probably more likely to be in the form of a recognised centre-forward, rather than someone who plays in an advanced midfield role.

They also need to sign a central midfielder, particularly in the wake of Kalvin Phillips’ injury, and their focus could be diverted from Kokcu for the time being.
