Leeds United: Lewis Bate to join MK Dons on loan, Daniel Farke sanctions exit

Lewis Bate is set to leave Leeds United on loan and join MK Dons after Daniel Farke sanctioned his exit, according to Yorkshire Evening Post.

Writing on their website (19 January) the news outlet report that the 21-year-old midfielder will leave for the rest of the season and head to League Two.

“Leeds United midfielder and fringe player Lewis Bate is set to join League Two outfit Milton Keynes Dons on a loan deal until the end of the season,” they wrote.

“After overcoming a recent injury, the ex-Chelsea man is set to join up with former Leeds teammate Max Dean at stadium:mk with Farke believed to have sanctioned the 21-year-old’s exit.”

Good move

Bate arrived from Chelsea a while ago with a big reputation from youth football and looked set to break into the first-team at some point.

But it hasn’t really worked out too well for the midfielder at Elland Road, and while he impressed on loan at Oxford United it didn’t earn him an opportunity under Daniel Farke despite Leeds’ relegation.

A loan move for him makes sense as it will allow him to play football regularly again, and the reality of the situation is that he probably doesn’t have a long-term career in Yorkshire.

Stepping down to League Two will be a chance for him to make a name for himself at that level and then potentially move on permanently in the summer, but with Leeds looking to get back in the Premier League it will surely be elsewhere.

Expect this to go through fairly soon, but the Peacocks won’t be hurt by it or too surprised by it either.
