Leeds United learn Tornqvist fee as transfer eyed for new goalkeeper

Leeds United have been linked with a move for Mjallby goalkeeper Noel Tornqvist in the upcoming transfer window.

Daniel Farke has seen Illan Meslier struggle between the sticks for the Whites and Karl Darlow replaced him this past season.

However, the Elland Road outfit are keen on signing a new stopper after securing promotion to the Premier League.

Tornqvist to cost £1.5m in summer transfer window

According to Swedish news outlet Fotboll Direkt (27 May), the Whites retain an interest in the 23-year-old keeper.

Several clubs in Sweden are keeping tabs on him, along with Leeds who want a new number one.

The West Yorkshire side were keen on signing Tornqvist in 2024 as well and are still considering a move for him.

Mjallby sporting director Hasse Larsson is keen on cashing in on the keeper and has set his transfer fee at £1.5million.

The 23-year-old has been at the club for five seasons and has managed to keep 25 clean sheets in 78 appearances.

Leeds United cannot sign Tornqvist as their first-choice keeper

Leeds should consider signing Tornqvist for £1.5million as a backup option as he’s trained with them in the past, but making him their first-choice goalkeeper in the Premier League would place undue pressure on an unproven talent.

His record of 25 clean sheets in 78 appearances for Mjallby is impressive, showcasing his potential with a 32% clean sheet rate in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

However, the leap to the Premier League, where the Whites aim to avoid relegation, demands a goalkeeper with proven top-flight experience.

Tornqvist, yet to earn a senior international cap for Sweden, lacks the high-stakes exposure needed to handle the intense scrutiny and quality of Premier League attackers.

As a backup, his youth and potential make him a cost-effective addition to develop behind a seasoned number one, providing depth and future resale value.

But thrusting him into the starting role risks exposing his inexperience, potentially undermining Leeds’ survival bid.

The Premier League requires a battle-tested goalkeeper, and the Sweden Under-21 international’s lack of top-level credentials makes him better suited as a deputy, learning the ropes while contributing to squad stability.
