Leeds United lead Premier League clubs in race to sign Calvin Ramsay, £3m bid tabled

Leeds United have made a move to beat their Premier League rivals to the signing of Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay, according to the Evening Express.

The Aberdeen-based newspaper reports on their website that Leeds have offered £3million plus a clause that sees Ramsay, 18, spend the rest of the season on loan at Pittodrie.

Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Leicester City are also said to be interested in the Scotland Under-21 international.

Overseas, Bologna have offered £4.8million for Ramsay while Frankfurt and Hoffenheim are also in pursuit of Aberdeen’s academy product.

Clever business?

Leeds do need to look at adding to their full-back options – but that’s not where their focus should be this month.

Victor Orta seems to have spent all of January chasing after Brenden Aaronson in a bid to add to Leeds’ midfield.

That’s the main area of concern for the Whites, while they also need a new striker and potentially a new back-up goalkeeper with plenty of experience.

At right-back, Leeds have a lot of options in Luke Ayling, Jamie Shackleton, Stuart Dallas and Cody Drameh, who was loaned out to Cardiff earlier this month.

If Ramsay is being signed with a view to him arriving in the summer, what happens when Drameh’s loan expires and we have a wealth of right-back options.

Ramsay is a talented young right-back and while we do like to see the club offering money to sign players like him – we simply do not need to be sanctioning deals like this at this late stage in January.

Get a midfielder, now.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay says a medical is possible for this player to join the Whites and personal terms won’t be an issue.
