Leeds United are close to signing Watford striker Joao Pedro on loan, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.
The Italian news outlet claims that the Whites are also edging towards a £25million swoop for Pedro’s Vicarage Road teammate Ismaila Sarr.
It is understood that Leeds “are among the most active teams of the last few hours” in the Premier League and are “one step away” from completing a double raid on Watford for their two star attackers.
We don’t understand this.
Leeds already have a wealth of options out wide and what they really need is an out-and-out forward.
While we understand signing one of Sarr or Pedro, we really don’t understand why Victor Orta would need to sign both of them and also, why Watford would agree to loan out Pedro.
With Sarr, if they’re getting £25million then it makes sense because that’s a lot of money.
But Pedro is a key player at Vicarage Road, playing 177 minutes across Watford’s first two Championship games of the season against Sheffield United, who he scored against, and West Brom.
Sure, Pedro is a young player but still, last season he played 29 times in all competitions and netted four goals for the Hornets.
He needs more experience but he’s clearly getting the minutes he needs at Watford and there’s no guarantee he’d get them at Leeds when Patrick Bamford is the main man up front.
This one is hard to believe so let’s not get our hopes up.
In other Leeds United news, deadline-busting deals have been predicted for the Whites as two new arrivals are mooted.
