Leeds United January transfer window guide: Who Daniel Farke could sign, who could be sold and deadline day explained
Leeds United are expected to have a busy January transfer window.
Daniel Farke is trying to keep Leeds in the Premier League, and to do so, he is going to need help from the 49ers.
Leeds spent over £100m in the summer, but there are clearly areas that Farke wishes to improve, given who the Whites have recently been linked with.
The 49ers are going to have to battle PSR problems in January, which makes the need for sales all the more important to bring in new signings.
Ahead of the window opening, MOT Leeds News gives you everything you need to know in this January transfer guide, with deadline day details, players who may move to LS11, and those who could depart.

When the January transfer window opens and closes
As always, the January transfer window will open on New Year’s Day, which is when the Whites can officially start making signings and sales.
However, deadline day is usually the 31 January, but due to the date falling on a weekend this time around, the window will close on Monday, 2 February.
| Opening date | Closing date | Deadline time |
| Thursday, 1 January | Monday, 2 February | 7.00 pm (GMT) |
The Whites will be given almost a full two days extra than normal to finalise their business, with 7.00 pm the cut-off point for signings and sales on the 2 February.
Deadline day is always hectic, and if Leeds struggle to get deals over the line in time, they can still go through as long as agreements are made and paperwork is submitted before the 7.00 pm cut-off.
Leeds supporters will hope that they don’t have any last-minute transfer collapses like the first time the Whites attempted to sign Dan James.
Leeds United’s January transfer targets
Leeds have been credited with interest in Tyrique George from Chelsea, who has been labelled as a “priority” for Leeds.
In the scenario where the Whites are not able to bring George to Elland Road, then Leeds could target a Manor Solomon return instead.
However, the pair are not the only left-wingers who the Peacocks have shortlisted, with Farke also keen on a move for Ruben Vargas from Sevilla.
Other reported Leeds targets:
- Santiago Gimenez (Striker, AC Milan)
- Josh Mulligan (Midfielder, Hibernian)
- Jens Petter Hauge (Winger, Bodo/Glimt)
- Martin Baturina (Attacking midfielder, Como)
- Gabriel Sara (Attacking Midfielder, Galatasaray)
- Gonzalo Garcia (Striker, Real Madrid)
- Troy Parrott (Striker, AZ Alkmaar)
The pattern in linked players suggests that Farke is after attacking reinforcements in the window, with the German appearing content with defensive options.

Given Leeds’ recent formation switch, it would be no surprise to see the Whites continue their pursuit of attacking-minded players, with creativity from midfield needed.

Who Daniel Farke could sell before deadline day
Joel Piroe has been tipped for an Elland Road exit ever since the start of the season, it feels like, with the Dutchman failing to gain minutes in the Premier League.
Championship and Eredivisie clubs are said to be interested in Piroe, and a January exit seems sensible for all parties.
Goalkeeper Illan Meslier has fallen out of favour after controversial performances blighted the Frenchman’s form during Leeds’ promotion campaign last season.
Meslier is in the final year of his contract, and January will be the last chance for the Whites to salvage a transfer fee for the 25-year-old.
The next few weeks are bound to be manic for the Whites, as January could prove to be one of Leeds’ most important months in recent times.
