Ben Jacobs shares January transfer update on Leeds United interest in Burnley ace Connor Roberts
Leeds United have a “realistic possibility” of signing Connor Roberts from Burnley before the transfer window closes, according to Ben Jacobs.
The Whites have been strongly linked with the Wales international ahead of the window closing on Thursday evening (1 February).
Time may be fast ticking down for Leeds to agree a deal, but CBS journalist Jacobs does not believe a transfer should be ruled out yet.
“I think Leeds are still very active,” he said on Caught Offside’s The Debrief podcast [30 January, 2:30pm].
“They want a full-back and there is interest in Connor Roberts at Burnley. Leeds stand a realistic possibility of getting that one over the line.
“The real desire for Leeds, positional wise, is to find a full-back. If they do that they’ll be pleased with their window.”
Time running out
Leeds have been scouring the market for a full-back since the moment Djed Spence was sent back to Tottenham.
A number of targets have supposedly been identified, but the club have not been able to get a deal over the line.
The same is true in other positions, too, with seemingly each new transfer target being snapped up by another club.
Leeds really could do with bringing in a new player before the window closes in order to freshen things up and ensure there is enough depth.
Roberts, who was described as “outstanding” by Vincent Kompany last season, would be a massive coup if that deal can be completed.
While the Welshman may not have performed all that well in the Premier League this term, he lit up the Championship last season.

Roberts would surely welcome the move as it means more regular playing time and linking up with a few international colleagues.
It would then come down to whether terms can be agreed between Leeds and Burnley, whether that is for a loan switch or a permanent deal.
If only one signing is to be finalised over the next day or so, hopefully it is this one.
