Leeds United in pursuit of Aston Villa midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka amid £20m transfer twist

Leeds United are in the hunt to sign Aston Villa contract rebel Carney Chukwuemeka, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The newspaper reported on 17 July (page 142) that the Whites are interested in signing the 18-year-old, who played 12 times in the Premier League for the Villans last season.

Chukwuemeka is in the final year of his contract at Villa Park and Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday (16 July) that Steven Gerrard is now ready to sell the midfielder with a £20million price-tag being slapped on his head.

Get him in

Chukwuemeka is one of the hottest young talents in English football right now so if the Whites can get him for somewhere around £15million, that would be great business.

Leeds have already added to their central midfield options this summer but a player like Chukwuemeka would not only be for the present, but he’d also be for the future.

Adam Forshaw and Mateusz Klich are getting on a bit now while Stuart Dallas is also the wrong side of 30 and is out until the New Year with a fractured femur.

Chukwuemeka, who was born in Austria but represents the England Under-19s, can play a central or attacking midfield role while he’s also capable of even slotting into a striker role.

With the money we’ve made from selling Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips, this deal should be affordable and would represent a massive coup for Victor Orta and Jesse Marsch.

Let’s hope the Whites can get it done because it’ll be a massive statement signing for the club.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are on the verge of winning the race to sign this player amid a £96,000-a-week development.
