Leeds United in pole position to sign Illias Akhomach on 30 June as talks underway to ‘seduce’ attacker

Illias Akhomach will quit Barcelona on 30 June with Leeds United in pole position to sign the teenager, according to Sport.

The Spanish newspaper reported via their website on 9 March that the decision has been made that the 18-year-old will walk away from the Nou Camp when his contract expires at the end of the season.

It is understood that Barca have presented the Spain Under-19 international with fresh terms but the offer was well short of what’s been offered by clubs in England and Italy.

Barca will be owed training compensation from any club who signs Akhomach.

Get him in

If Leeds can sign Akhomach on a cheap, compensation deal then we’re all for it.

Over the years, Victor Orta has regularly snapped up talented players from across Europe with mixed results.

We’ve had the likes of Illan Meslier, Crysencio Summerville and Pascal Struijk join the Whites to become mainstays of the first-team squad.

But then we’ve had players like Kun Temenuzhkov, Hugo Diaz, Aapo Halme and Oliver Sarkic who joined, amounted to nothing at Leeds and then left.

What’s potentially different about Akhomach is that he’s already played senior football for Barcelona.

The 18-year-old, who’ll turn 19 next month, has made three first-team appearances for Barca, which all come last season.

This term, he hasn’t played but did find himself on the bench against Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League group stages back in November.

Akhomach is a right-winger who could be a really clever addition at Elland Road with the risk worth the possible reward.
