Leeds United in line for new transfer windfall before February 3 deadline

Leeds United are in line to receive a portion of the fee if Mateusz Bogusz completes a £7million transfer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Graham Smyth shared on 20 January that Bogusz, who has plied his trade for LAFC since leaving Elland Road for the MLS in March 2023, is linked with a multi-million move to Mexican side Cruz Azul.

The Peacocks are understood to have inserted a sell-on clause in the deal which saw Bogusz depart for the USA, meaning they’re set to collect a small portion if the transfer does come to fruition.

Leeds United stand to benefit from Mateusz Bogusz transfer

While Bogusz never made the grade at Elland Road, making just three first-team appearances across three seasons under Marcelo Bielsa, he’s gone from strength to strength across the pond.

Since signing for LAFC, Bogusz has netted 22 goals in 79 matches, including 18 in all competitions last term at a better rate than one every other game – superb statistics for an attacking midfielder.

This has resulted in the 23-year-old making his international debut for Poland in the most recent round of fixtures, a testament to how his career has flourished since leaving the Whites in March 2023.

United officials likely recognised Bogusz’s potential to go all the way upon negotiating his transfer to the MLS, thus including a sell-on clause could prove to be a shrewd move on their part.

Such foresight has been a rarity in LS11 when it comes to the sales of Leif Davis and most recently Archie Gray, but collecting a windfall from any Bogusz transfer could aid their ambitions before 3 February.
