Leeds United are looking to make a late attempt to sign AZ Alkmaar forward Jens Odgaard, according to BT.

The Danish newspaper reported on its website on 1 September that the Whites are joined in the race for the 24-year-old by Serie A side Bologna and Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.

It said the Italians are currently locked in negotiations with AZ over the Danish forward, who became the club's record transfer when he signed from Sassuolo last summer for £3.4million, but Leeds are also "lurking in the background".

Interesting

This is an interesting development that appears to have come out of absolutely nowhere as Leeds are being linked with a move for Odgaard.

Daniel Farke has already added Joel Piroe to his forward options over the past week, but if there is truth in the Danish newspaper's report, then he is still keen on making another signing in that department.

It could perhaps be in a move to ensure he has a deal working in the background just in case one of his other attackers leaves the club as the deadline approaches.

After making the move from Sassuolo last summer, the Dane has scored 12 goals and laid on six assists in 49 appearances for the Dutch side, including playing in five games for them already this season.

He can operate as a striker or on the right wing, so that would add some extra flexibility to the West Yorkshire club's attacking options if they decide to make a bid for him before the deadline.
