Leeds United in hunt to sign player Crystal Palace want as Marc Guehi replacement

Leeds United are involved in a battle to sign a player Crystal Palace want as Marc Guehi’s replacement at Selhurst Park.

Guehi’s move from Palace to Manchester City, worth a reported £20million, officially went through on Monday afternoon.

The England international will leave a huge void to be filled in the Eagles’ defence, with a player overseas seemingly being targeted.

Leeds are themselves still in the market for new signings before the winter transfer ends, meanwhile, and a three-way Premier League tussle may now be on the cards.

Leeds want to sign Jayden Oosterwolde from Fenerbahce

Facundo Buonanotte is the only new signing at Leeds so far this window, but that will hopefully change before too long.

According to a report on Monday evening via The Sun’s Charlie Gordon, Fenerbahce defender Jayden Oosterwolde is a player Leeds have expressed an interest in.

However, Nottingham Forest are also keen on signing Oosterwolde, as are Serie A side Roma.

Palace are said to have ramped up their interest in the left-footed centre-back in recent days once it became clear Guehi was moving on.

However, there is no sort of agreement in place and Leeds therefore remain in the hunt for the 24-year-old defender.

What type of player is Oosterwolde similar to?

Leeds’ defence superbly kept a clean sheet against Fulham at the weekend in a 1-0 win that further strengthens the Whites’ survival credentials.

That is not to say further strength in depth cannot be added at the back, though, and Oosterwolde certainly sounds like he ticks plenty of boxes.

As per FBref, the player most alike Oosterwolde is Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni, which is quite the company to be in.

Bastoni wins 1.78 tackles per 90 in Serie A, compared to 1.38 for Oosterwolde in Super Lig, while they register 0.98 and 0.92 interceptions per 90 respectively.

That is not to say Leeds will be signing one of the best defenders in the world, which Bastoni very much is, but he is clearly a talented player.

That explains the demand from England and abroad, and it is imperative Leeds now get a move on if he is indeed on their list of targets.
