Leeds United in hot pursuit of Manuel Benson as Burnley star axed at Turf Moor
Leeds United hold a “concrete interest” in signing Burnley winger Manuel Benson, according to Daily Express reporter Charlie Gordon.
The journalist posted on X to report that the Whites as well as Championship rivals Norwich City and Sunderland are in hot pursuit of the 27-year-old.
Benson, once dubbed a player who can change a game by former Clarets boss Vincent Kompany (LancsLive, 3 November 2022), was an unused substitute as Burnley started their Championship campaign with a 4-1 hammering of Luton Town and is understood to want to be a starter this season.
Leeds United want Burnley ace Manuel Benson
It is no secret that Leeds are in the hunt for another forward signing after Crysencio Summerville was sold to West Ham.
Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe has been heavily linked with a switch to Elland Road, while Jesurun Rak-Sayki was a name mentioned but is expected to join Sheffield United on loan.
It means Leeds are still on the hunt and Benson was a player who was also heavily linked to Leeds in the winter transfer window, but he opted to stay and fight for his place at Burnley, who were still in the Premier League at the time.
It looks as though the Whites will have plenty of competition again, though, and what might count against Daniel Farke’s side is how much game time can be guaranteed to Benson.
Summerville may have gone but Wilfried Gnonto and Dan James still remain and Benson would face a tough fight to start ahead of both players.
In other Leeds United news, one player was spotted with the squad for the first time since 2022 against Middlesbrough.
