Leeds United in for Tommy Lonergan as remarkable turnaround continues
Leeds United are seemingly keeping a very close eye on Irish striker Tommy Lonergan.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international is enjoying a superb year in front of goal.
As well as banging them in for his national side, he is also on fire for club side Waterford in the League of Ireland Premier Division.
Lonergan is now on the radar of numerous teams in England, with Leeds said to be among them.
After a previous underwhelming spell on these shores, it may well be that the 22-year-old soon returns.
And his performance in front of numerous watching scouts this week certainly would not have put them off making a move.
Who is Leeds target Tommy Lonergan?
After previously catching the eye for St Patrick's Athletic in his homeland, Lonergan earned a move to Fleetwood Town in February 2024.
Just one goal in 20 appearances followed, though, leading to a return to Ireland with Waterford.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, the striker's remarkable turnaround in form is not going unnoticed.
Scouts from Leeds, Everton, Sunderland, Brentford and Burnley are said to have been in attendance for Republic of Ireland U21s' win over their England counterparts in Cork this week.
Lonergan scored twice in a 3-1 win for the hosts, taking his tally to four goals in three games this international break, as well as one assist.
He has 15 goals at club level this calendar year so far across 32 matches, meanwhile, with that tally only growing.
As pointed out in the report, he is "flourishing" back home but may soon be on the move once again.
What is Lonergan's transfer valuation?
Interest in Lonergan has only increased, it is claimed, as a result of his showing against England U21s.
Still, he is not exactly a household name and he could potentially be available for a bargain fee.
Putting an exact figure on how much Lonergan would cost is difficult, but Transfermarkt value him at £190,000.
You would imagine that figure will only climb the longer Lonergan continues to score freely, so it would make sense for Leeds to pounce sooner rather than later.
