Leeds United in advanced talks to sign Joseph Paintsil in multi-million deal – Dharmesh Sheth

Leeds United are in advanced talks to sign Genk forward Joseph Paintsil, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports News reporter took to Twitter on Friday (25 August) to report that the deal will be worth a total of £8.5million with an initial £6.8million being paid up front and a further £1.7million in add-ons.

Sheth adds that personal terms are not expected to be a problem for Paintsil, 25, to sign for the Whites after a deal for Southampton to sign the Ghana international broke down.

Much-needed signing

Paintstil has played eight times already for Genk this season, scoring one goal and supplying two assists. His one goal came in a Europa League qualifier against Olympiakos earlier this month.

He’s an out-and-out right-winger with over 100 appearances to his name in the Belgian Jupiler League at Genk while he’s also been capped nine times by Ghana.

Daniel Farke’s attack will no doubt be boosted by the arrival of Paintsil and getting a deal done for him ahead of Southampton is also great news as they’ll no doubt be battling us for promotion this season.

Last time out, in the 1-1 draw with West Brom, Jamie Shackleton had to start on the right wing due to a shortage of options but it remains to be seen what the situation is with Luis Sinisterra and whether he’ll be coming back into the fold.

We wouldn’t be shocked if signing Paintsil opens the door for Sinisterra to move on, as well as players like Helder Costa and potentially Ian Poveda.

Leeds completed the signing of striker Joel Piroe from Swansea on Thursday (24 August) and it looks as though another new forward could soon be coming through the door at Elland Road.
