Leeds United want Daniel Jebbison deal in big blow to Chris Wilder at Sheffield United

Daniel Jebbison is a top target for Leeds United this summer as he heads for the exit at Sheffield United, according to Graeme Bailey.

The journalist reported via the HITC website on 31 May that the Canadian forward has already “generated offers” from around England and Europe but the Whites believe they can land him on a free transfer in what would be a “big blow” to Chris Wilder, who wanted the youngster to stay.

Technical director Gretar Steinsson reportedly likes the 20-year-old to add physicality and youth to the squad at Elland Road, despite Jebbison missing all but 20 minutes of the Premier League season on the final day at Bramall Lane last term with a blood clot.

The Blades have failed to agree a contract extension with him and all of Everton, Brighton, and ex-Championship rivals Ipswich and Leicester are amongst those clubs who have attempted to bring him in already.

Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Monaco are all said to be interested but Leeds United are “hopeful” of landing him, with Steinsson having been a fan of the player since the Elland Road figure was at Everton.

Daniel Farke to land new Leeds United forward?

There may be an element of risk in making a player who has missed almost an entire campaign a top target but having missed out on promotion the Whites will have to adapt accordingly.

It seems there is no shortage of interest in the forward, despite just three goals for the Blades and his strongest season coming in League One when he scored seven league goals for Burton Albion two years ago.

That record is unlikely to particularly excite the club’s fanbase after the disappointment of missing out on a return to the Premier League.

But there appears to be significant expectations on Jebbison’s shoulders since Wilder doesn’t want to lose him and so many clubs are looking to snap him up.

Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph
Leeds United’s exciting young forward talent, Mateo Joseph

Mateo Joseph is surely set for a greater role under Daniel Farke next term with Georginio Rutter possibly leaving, but amid streaky form from both Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford in the second tier there does look to be a need for help at the striker position.

Leeds United have a huge amount of expenditure to accommodate on previous transfers before they can even look at making new signings, so a sought-after free transfer target would be attractive for the Elland Road hierarchy.

It would seemingly be something of an achievement to land Jebbison ahead of Premier League sides, including those which secured promotion where the Whites failed but he may not be ready to be a top flight regular yet.
