Leeds United hold talks over signing Borussia Dortmund defender Marius Wolf

Leeds United have registered their interest in Borussia Dortmund full-back Marius Wolf, who is set to become a free agent this summer, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports journalist reported via X [20 May] that the Whites have already enquired about the 28-year-old, seeing him as a “serious” transfer option if the club can secure promotion back to the Premier League this season.

It is understood that there is also interest from Spain, Italy and Saudi Arabia, as the defender closes the chapter on his Dortmund career after a total of 121 appearances since arriving in 2018.

“Leeds United are interested in Wolf and could be a serious option if Leeds are promoted to the Premier League,” Plettenberg wrote. “Leeds have enquired about the 28-year-old right-back, who leaves Dortmund as a free agent.”

Leeds United target Marius Wolf as Premier League beckons

Premier League promotion is certainly the target this season as Leeds prepare to face Southampton in the Championship play-off final on Sunday 26 May.

Of course, with just one match separating the club from a bounce straight back up to the top tier of English football, it makes sense for plans to be made already in the eventuality of beating the Saints at Wembley.

Daniel Farke’s full-backs are definitely an area that can be improved upon this summer, with Archie Gray filling in the position for the majority of the campaign while Junior Firpo has little competition at left-back.

With 11 goal contributions for Dortmund, his style of play is likely to fit Farke’s perfectly and will push the players around him to play at their very best, which will be vital if Leeds are to stay in the Premier League.

He also has five international caps to his name with Germany, suggesting that Wolf would bring a lot of experience and wisdom to the team, something that will be needed as Stuart Dallas, Luke Ayling and Liam Cooper all look set to leave Elland Road.
