Leeds United hierarchy not happy as second Facundo Buonanotte chance possible
Leeds United may turn their attention to Facundo Buonanotte once again in January, but the 49ers won’t forget what happened this summer.
Buonanotte almost signed for Leeds in the summer, after agreeing a loan deal with his parent club Brighton, before Chelsea came in at the last minute to secure the forward.
The Blues signed the 21-year-old on a straight loan move until the end of the 2025-26 season, with no reported obligations or options to buy in the contract.
Buonanotte may have regretted his decision to join Chelsea, given his current lack of playing time and Leeds‘ recent resurgence in form, which he could have been a part of.
Daniel Farke could add to his squad in January, and the Whites may yet have an opportunity to bring the Argentine to Elland Road after all.

49ers said to be unhappy with Facundo Buonanotte’s late decision
Leeds’ attack transformed after Farke‘s switch to a 3-5-2 formation, but the German is believed to be open to new signings in the forward areas.
Buonanotte has rarely featured for Enzo Maresca this campaign, and Brighton could recall their youngster in the January window.
- Buonanotte has played just one time in the Premier League this season
- He has featured just seven times for Chelsea in all competitions
- Leeds could sign him, but there are complications
According to The Athletic, there is a chance that Brighton and Chelsea could agree to see the forward return to his parent club in January, with Leeds potentially an attractive destination.
However, it’s been suggested that the Leeds hierarchy will not have been impressed with the Argentine’s late Elland Road snub.
Farke is said to only be interested in bringing players to LS11 who have the right personalities, and given what happened with Buonanotte the first time, a deal may be even more complicated to do in January.
The Seagulls likely see the attacking midfielder as an important player for their long-term future, and Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler may yet give him Buonanotte a chance at the Amex Stadium this season.
Even though a deal may make sense, there are plenty of hurdles in the way.
Leeds January spending limit may change 49ers’ stance
The 49ers will not have been happy with how the Buonanotte saga unfolded.
Leeds want to stay in the Premier League, and for their main targets to turn them down at the last minute, it only adds to the frustration.
The Whites have to battle financial constraints in January, and may even have to sell before buying new additions.
This makes the rumours on Buonanotte’s potential signing make even more sense. Leeds would most likely try to sign the Brighton man on a loan deal to save cash.
Like it or not, Paraag Marathe and Co. may have to bite their lips and get the move done next month.
