Leeds United heads turned by Folarin Balogun at World Cup as windfall details emerge
Leeds United clearly like what they have seen from Folarin Balogun at the World Cup so far.
The United States international scored twice for the co-hosts in their opening-game win over Paraguay.
Balogun was unable to follow that up with a goal against Australia, but he still impressed up top.
After scoring 31 goals in 91 games for the French side, Balogun may soon be on the move again.
And it appears Leeds are one of numerous Premier League teams keeping a close eye on the 24-year-old.
Arsenal in line for Folarin Balogun windfall amid Leeds interest
Balogun spent two decades on Arsenal's books but only made a couple of Premier League appearances.
After impressing on loan in France with Reims, Balogun earned a £34.2million move to Monaco in 2023.
As per a report from talkSPORT on Tuesday, Arsenal included a sell-on clause of 17.5 per cent in that agreement.
The same report suggests Balogun "has caught the attention" of Leeds with his "blistering" performances so far in FIFA's global showpiece.
Leeds are not alone with that interest, however, as Brighton and newly promoted pair Hull City and Coventry City are also keen.
Monaco price already set for Balogun exit
Balogun's valuation is only going to rise if he continues to perform on home soil at the World Cup.
Should USA advance deep, Balogun will be one of the poster boys of the whole competition.
The former England age-grade international's price is already set fairly high, with the same report suggesting Monaco want £43m for him.
That is arguably already out of Leeds' price range, unless they are signing a player who could seriously strengthen Daniel Farke's starting XI.
Balogun is clearly talented, but that valuation seems a little high based on his career stats.
Thirteen goals in 30 Ligue 1 matches last season is not a bad return, but nor is it worth Leeds breaking the bank to bring him in.
There are better options out there, especially those without a World Cup premium attached.
