Leeds United have ‘Trump Card’ in Ben Godfrey transfer chase, January transfer on cards
Leeds United may have a “trump card” in the chase for Everton defender Ben Godfrey as he looks set for a January transfer, according to talkSPORT.
Writing in their live transfer blog (24 January, 14:00), the news outlet report that the 26-year-old is a target for the likes of AC Milan and Sheffield United and the Whites are keen to do a loan deal.
But they may have an advantage in the race because of manager Daniel Farke, who worked with Godfrey at Norwich, with their relationship very good from their previous stint together.
“Leeds United have joined the race to sign Everton defender Ben Godfrey,” they wrote.
“Sheffield United have also been linked with an interest in the 26-year-old centre-back, while AC Milan are also keen.
“But Leeds could have a trump card in their manager Daniel Farke, who coached Godfrey at Norwich City.”
Trump card
There has been talk that 777 Partners are looking to use their connections to bolster their clubs, with their takeover of Everton on the cards and Godfrey linked with a move to Genoa recently.
A permanent move for Godfrey seems to make more sense because of Everton’s financial problems, and Leeds don’t need anyone to come in permanently right now when they don’t know what the future holds for them.

After losing Djed Spence and Luke Ayling already plus the future of Charlie Cresswell very much up in the air, defensive reinforcements are needed but spending big on a permanent deal and then not getting promoted would be a big problem.
If Farke is able to use his connections to bring in a top talent like Godfrey to boost the squad and improve Leeds then it would be a real coup, but it’s not a negotiation that Leeds have much leverage in unfortunately.
