Leeds United may be backed into a corner over Pascal Struijk's situation this summer, but Paraag Marathe and Co. should take confidence that they could still sell him on for a high fee.

It's said that the Whites lack control over what happens with their key Dutchman this summer, as he is close to entering the final 12 months of his deal at Elland Road

There's a chance that the 26-year-old may want a new challenge, and therefore, he may be content to run down his contract next season.

However, Leeds have developed Struijk over seven seasons now, and letting him go for free is something they want to avoid completely.

But if the Whites cannot strike a deal with the centre-back to sign new terms, they will most likely look to sell while they can.

It's never ideal to sell someone like Struijk with little left on his contract, but Leeds should be confident that they can sell him for huge money due to Jan Paul van Hecke's imminent move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Jan Paul van Hecke's £52m move shows what's possible with Pascal Struijk

According to Fabrizio Romano on Tuesday, Tottenham have agreed a deal in principle to sign van Hecke from Brighton.

The transfer is set to cost the Lilywhites £52million, but interestingly enough, the defender was also about to enter his final 12 months with Brighton.

Unlike Struijk up until this point, van Hecke indicated he would not sign a new deal with the Seagulls, which then opened up a transfer move.

Leeds will need an answer from their own player soon, though this deal in particular proves that the Whites can still get a high fee.

It sets the precedent in any possible negotiations for Struijk, and Leeds can use it as an example to back-up there case, though asking for around £50m would be a bit of a stretch.

How much could Leeds realistically get for Pascal Struijk?

Given that Leeds have spent so much time and patience on Struijk, it would be a crime to see him go for free.

The Whites need to have their answer before the final weeks of the summer window, as their chances of getting a good fee for him will be very slim in the winter.

Leeds should be asking for a minimum of £25m for the former Ajax youth star, given Brighton squeezed £52m out of their Premier League rivals for van Hecke.

Struijk is a high-value player for Leeds on the field, too, but his future at Elland Road does look very uncertain right now.
