Leeds United: Gustavo Hamer could seek Premier League switch amid £9m+ transfer development
Leeds United have been joined by Brighton in the race to sign Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer this summer, according to SussexLive.
The south coast news outlet reports that Brighton are eyeing up Hamer, 24, amid doubts surrounding Yves Bissouma’s future at the AMEX Stadium.
It is understood that Dutch-born Brazilian midfielder Hamer could be keen on a move to the Premier League this summer after a superb season for Coventry in the Championship.

Talking about Hamer’s qualities and what the future holds for him, as quoted by SussexLive, Coventry Telegraph journalist Andy Turner said: “His strengths are numerous and include an excellent reading of the game and speed of thought, constantly nipping in to steal and intercept the ball on the defensive side of his game. He’s also an attacking force who can drive forward with the ball, pick out a killer pass and improvise within sight of the goal. Although he only got three goals this term, having got five the season before, he had chances to get plenty more. His set-piece delivery, particularly from corners, is also outstanding.
Turner added: “Coventry are desperate to keep him but they are realistic enough to know that every player has a price. Fans are hoping he stays for another season and if he does go, it won’t be on the cheap. Having signed a new contract extension recently to take him to 2024, City have a bit of security. As for how much he’d cost, it has been speculated that he’s worth around the £9million-£10million mark.”
Clever business
Hamer is just the kind of player who Leeds are crying out for in their midfield.
While Brenden Aaronson has arrived from Red Bull Salzburg, he’s an attacking midfielder who’ll more than likely player behind a striker next season for Jesse Marsch.
Hamer is a deeper-lying midfielder who’s sat in front of the defence for Coventry on most occasions this season. However, as Turner points out, the Brazilian is also capable of playing further forward in the middle of the park and even as a wing-back.

He’s versatile, which is probably why Victor Orta looked at him when Marcelo Bielsa was in charge.
Hamer is also a set-piece wizard and he assisted 10 goals in 39 Championship appearances for Coventry this season – as well as scoring three of his own.
The former Feyenoord ace is a player who can raise the quality in Leeds’ midfield and for less than £10million, he should be quite a bargain too.
Let’s see if Orta can get this one done because Hamer sounds like a quality talent.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are battling to sign this 11-goal forward from a relegated club.
