Leeds United given Solomon answer amid Postecoglou uncertainty at Tottenham

Leeds United struck gold when they signed Manor Solomon on loan last year, and they want to keep him at the club.

Solomon played a huge part as Leeds won the Championship, scoring some vital goals towards the end of the campaign, and became a popular figure.

The winger joined on loan from Tottenham after Ange Postecoglou decided he did not want to use him, and Daniel Farke reaped the benefits.

However, with Leeds keen on keeping the attacker, they have now been handed a blow as Tottenham’s stance over his future has changed.

Tottenham want to keep Solomon

Postecoglou’s future at Spurs is yet to be decided despite winning the Europa League, but the club are already making decisions over the squad.

It has now been reported via The Sun’s print edition (6 June) that Tottenham are intent on keeping Solomon in the squad despite interest from Leeds and other clubs.

Spurs want to bring Solomon back into the first-team fold next season, whether or not Postecoglou is in charge, and this is a body blow to Leeds’ hopes of keeping the 25-year-old.

Solomon scored 10 goals and provided 12 assists, including several match-winning moments, as he helped Leeds return to the top flight, but it now appears his time at Elland Road is at an end.

Leeds need to replace Solomon’s output

Leeds do have a lot of depth on the wings even if they cannot bring Solomon back, but losing his goals and creativity will be damaging ahead of the new season.

Leeds’ priorities in the transfer market are to sign a goalkeeper and striker, and they will hope that a new centre-forward can help replace Solomon’s output in front of goal.

However, they will still need more creativity and speed if Solomon does not return, and a new winger may be sought out after a striker arrives.

Signing a Premier League-ready option could even be a better move than bringing Solomon back, but the market may be limited with regard to available options on his level.

It is questionable whether Solomon can make the step up from the Championship to the Premier League, but this will likely be a challenge for Tottenham rather than Leeds.
